DualSense Extras
Battery, connection, motion and light bar via WebHID (optional)Buttons, sticks, triggers, touchpad click and the PS button already work through the standard Gamepad API. Connect via HID in Chrome or Edge to add the readings below.
Testing a PS5 DualSense Controller
Two layers: the Gamepad API for buttons and sticks, and WebHID for the extra sensors.
Buttons & Sticks
Live ✕○□△, L1/R1, analog L2/R2, Create, Options, PS button and both sticks.
Touchpad, Motion & Battery
Connect with WebHID to read touch coordinates, gyro, battery level and the mute button.
Light-Bar Control
Set the light bar colour directly from this page to confirm the LEDs work.
How to Test a PS5 Controller
- 1
Connect the DualSense with a USB-C data cable, or hold Create and PS until the light bar flashes to pair it.
- 2
Press any button. The drawing switches from idle to live and the title shows your pad.
- 3
Press every face button, the D-pad, L1/R1, Create, Options, the PS button and the touchpad click.
- 4
Squeeze L2 and R2 slowly. The bars should rise smoothly to 1.00 without jumps.
- 5
Rotate both sticks, then let go and check the error figure under each stick plot.
- 6
Fire the rumble presets, then click Connect via HID for battery, gyro and the light bar.
What the DualSense Reports to a Browser
Through the Gamepad API, the DualSense sends 17 or 18 buttons and four stick axes. Chrome maps them to the standard layout.
WebHID unlocks the rest: two-finger touch positions, gyro and accelerometer data, battery level and the mute button.
Adaptive-trigger resistance and the speaker need vendor commands, so no web tester can check them fully.
DualSense Edge Notes
The Edge reports its back buttons as whichever buttons you assigned in the PS5 profile, so test them after mapping.
Its replaceable stick modules show drift exactly like standard sticks. Swapping a module and retesting is a quick way to confirm the fault.
DualSense Over USB vs Bluetooth
Over USB, the DualSense reports reliably to every browser and supports rumble in Chrome and Edge. It also charges while you test.
Over Bluetooth, buttons and sticks work the same, but rumble and light-bar commands use a different report format. If an output test fails wirelessly, repeat it with a cable.
Standard Button Index Map
This is the order browsers use when a pad reports "standard" mapping.

Common DualSense Problems and Fixes
These faults come up most often on PS5 controllers.
Stick drift
The DualSense uses potentiometer sticks that can wear. Confirm it with the stick drift test before you open the pad.
Not detected on PC
Many USB-C cables are charge-only. Try a data cable, then see our PS5-to-PC guide.
L2 or R2 feels stuck
A broken adaptive-trigger motor or debris can block travel. If the value stops short of 1.00, the trigger needs service.
Rumble not working
Use Chrome or Edge over USB. Bluetooth rumble needs the vendor protocol, which many browsers do not send.
Light bar stays off on PC
That is normal until a game or app sets it. Our light bar tester can switch it on over WebHID.
Battery drains fast
Turn down rumble and trigger effects on the PS5, and update the firmware, which often improves battery life.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which browsers support the extras?
Chrome, Edge and Opera on desktop support WebHID. Other browsers still show buttons and sticks.
Can I test adaptive triggers?
The analog L2/R2 travel is shown live. Driving resistance effects needs game-specific output reports we do not send.
Does the DualSense Edge work?
Yes. Back buttons appear as whatever they are mapped to in the controller profile.
Why does Bluetooth show fewer features?
Over Bluetooth the controller starts in a basic mode; the tool switches it to full reports automatically.
Can I test a PS5 controller without a PS5?
Yes. Any PC, Mac, Android phone or iPad with a modern browser can test it over USB or Bluetooth.
Why are some buttons in the wrong order in Firefox?
Firefox may expose the DualSense with raw mapping. We remap it automatically, but Chrome or Edge give the most reliable result.
Can this update the DualSense firmware?
No. Firmware updates need a PS5 or Sony's PC updater. Our firmware guide explains both.
Why does my DualSense show as "Wireless Controller"?
That is the name Sony's firmware reports to the system. The tester recognises it from its vendor and product IDs.
