How to Test a PS5 Touchpad Online

Real touch data straight from your DualSense — not just whether the pad clicks.

What the Test Shows

Finger positions drawn live with fading trails, a two-finger counter and a border that lights up on each click.

Finding Dead Spots

The pad is split into a 12 × 6 grid. Sweep slowly across it — cells that never light up point to a faulty area.

Why Device Access Is Needed

Touch coordinates are only available through WebHID, so the browser asks you to choose the controller. Nothing leaves your device.

How to Test the PS5 Touchpad

  1. 1

Open the page in Chrome, Edge or Opera on a desktop computer.

  2. 2

Connect the DualSense by USB or Bluetooth and click Connect.

  3. 3

Choose the controller in the browser dialog to allow WebHID access.

  4. 4

Slide one finger across the whole pad, then two fingers at once.

  5. 5

Press the pad to test the click, on both the left and right halves.

What the Touchpad Reports

The DualSense touchpad tracks up to two fingers at 1920 × 1080 resolution. Each finger has an ID that stays the same until it lifts.

The click is a separate button. The standard Gamepad API sees the click, but finger positions need WebHID.

Finding Dead Zones on the Pad

Draw slow lines from edge to edge. Gaps in the trace show areas where the sensor no longer reads touch.

Draw a grid pattern to test the whole surface. Dead spots usually appear near corners after heavy wear.

Using the Touchpad in PC Games

Most PC games only read the touchpad click. Steam Input can turn the touch surface into a mouse, scroll wheel or extra buttons.

If touch works here but not in a game, check the Steam Input layout for that game, since it may have the touchpad disabled.

Touchpad Problems and Fixes

Most touchpad faults are easy to tell apart with this test.

Click works, touch does not

The touch sensor or its ribbon cable may be loose. Reseating the cable fixes many cases.

Touch works, click does not

The click switch under the pad may be worn or blocked by debris.

Jumpy tracking

Clean the surface and dry your fingers. Moisture and grease cause noisy readings.

Connect button disabled

WebHID needs a Chromium desktop browser. Safari, Firefox and mobile browsers do not support it.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which browsers are supported?

Chrome, Edge and Opera on desktop support WebHID. Other browsers can only show the touchpad click.

Does it work over Bluetooth?

Yes — both USB and Bluetooth DualSense and DualShock 4 connections are supported.

My touchpad clicks but doesn't track

The touch sensor or its ribbon cable may be damaged. Try a different USB cable and port first.

Can I test the DualSense Edge?

Yes, the Edge uses the same touch sensor and reports identically.

Does this work with the DualShock 4?

Yes. The DS4 touchpad reports two fingers in the same way, at a lower resolution.

Is WebHID access safe?

The browser only opens the device you pick, and access ends when you close the tab.

Why does the click count but no trace appears?

Finger positions need WebHID. Click Connect and choose the controller to enable tracking.
