Colour Sweep Test
Cycle red, green, blue, white and every hue to find a dead LED channelChange Your PS5 Controller Light Colour
Preview, apply and test every light on your DualSense from the browser.
What It Does
Sends a WebHID output report that sets the light-bar RGB, the player LEDs and the mic LED in real time.
Spot Faulty LEDs
Run the colour sweep: if any colour looks wrong or missing, one of the red, green or blue channels has failed.
Safe & Temporary
Nothing is written to firmware. The console or game sets its own colour when it takes over again.
How to Test the PS5 Light Bar
- 1
Use Chrome, Edge or Opera on a desktop and connect the DualSense.
- 2
Click Connect and choose the controller in the browser dialog.
- 3
Pick a colour or a preset. The light bar should change within a moment.
- 4
Try full red, green and blue to check each LED channel.
- 5
Test the player LEDs and the brightness setting if your pad supports them.
How the Light Bar Works
The DualSense light bar uses red, green and blue LEDs on both sides of the touchpad. The PS5 or a game sets its colour.
On a PC, the light bar keeps its last colour or stays off until software sends a new one. WebHID lets this page send that command.
Checking Each LED Channel
Full red, green and blue each light one LED channel. If one colour is missing, that channel has failed.
White lights all three. A tinted white means one channel is weaker than the others.
Light Bar in PC Games
Some PC games set the light bar to match health, team or in-game lights. Others leave it at the last colour.
Steam Input and DS4Windows can set a fixed colour or show the battery level. Close them if this tester's colour does not stick.
Light Bar Colours and What They Mean on PS5
The PS5 uses the light bar to show the player number and status.
| Colour | Usual meaning |
|---|---|
| Blue | Player 1, or the default colour |
| Red | Player 2 in many games |
| Green | Player 3 in many games |
| Pink / purple | Player 4 in many games |
| Pulsing orange | Charging while the PS5 is in rest mode |
Light Bar Problems and Fixes
If the light bar misbehaves, try these checks.
Light bar stays off
Make sure WebHID is connected. Without it, browsers cannot change the colour.
Wrong colour
A game or Steam Input may override the colour. Close them and test again.
Flickering
A loose ribbon cable or low battery can cause flicker. Charge the pad and retest.
Too bright
On the PS5, lower the brightness under Accessories, Controllers.
Frequently Asked Questions
Which browsers can change the colour?
Chrome, Edge and Opera on desktop (WebHID). Other browsers show the on-screen preview only.
Does it work over Bluetooth?
Yes, for DualSense and DualShock 4 — the right report format is chosen automatically.
Will the colour stay after I unplug?
No. The colour resets when the controller is reconnected or a game takes control.
Can I set the player number?
Yes — toggle any of the five player LEDs individually or pick a preset.
Does the colour stay after I close the page?
It stays until the controller turns off or another app changes it.
Can I turn the light bar off?
You can set it to black here. On the PS5 you can only dim it.
Can I use the light bar to check the battery?
Not by colour on PC. Use the DualSense Extras panel on the PS5 tester to read the battery over WebHID.
